Not a great time, but not a bad one either, considering that my previous serious racing ride (not counting a slow phone run in wet weather and civilian clothes) dates back from early October. The weather was great, but there was a strong wind that stubbornly seemed to challenge me in both directions for some reason. Still, it was a joy to be in the saddle again after so long — especially after intensive holiday eating marathons. About 2/3 of the way, however, one of the spokes in my back wheel broke — again. It’s about the fourth time that happens, and it keeps happening sooner and sooner. So I’ve decided to buy a new set of wheels. But first I’m going to use the MTB to do most of my cycling, which is probably a better idea until the weather conditions improve anyway.
